What’s
Special About Bee Pollen? Bee
pollen has been studied in several species, for benefits as
diverse as improved egg production in chickens and enhanced
weight gain in rats. In Europe, research has investigated
improvements in human prostate conditions, upper chest
respiratory infections, poor appetite and endocrine
imbalances. For many years human athletes competing in
weight lifting, professional team sports and Olympic events
have attributed increased stamina and energy reserves to the
use of bee pollen.
What
Can Bee Pollen Do For Horses? The
primary ingredient of bee pollen, the pollen of many species
of flowers, is a nutritious part of the horse's natural
diet. Bee pollen contains a rich array of carotenoids, the
family of natural plant antioxidants that includes beta
carotene. These are accompanied by low levels of a broad
range of trace and ultra trace minerals, plus enzymes and
coenzymes. Horses foraging on open range land benefit from
these nutrients in wildflower pollen, but the domesticated
horse feeding on hay and grain is deprived of this
"Gift of Nature." Many trainers around the country
report increased vitality, better overall health, and
improved earnings from adding bee pollen to the feed.
